Rhinoplasty
Procedure: Rhinoplasty is surgery to change the shape of the bridge and the tip of the nose. The most commonly requested changes are removal of a hump on the nose, straightening of the nose, and improvement in the shape or position of the nasal tip. The main benefits of rhinoplasty are improvement in the shape of the nose and improvement in harmony between the nose and the face. Dr. Moubayed was the first surgeon in Quebec to introduce ultrasonic rhinoplasty using piezosurgery to reshape the bones of the nose using ultrasound technology, which improves precision and control when reshaping bones.
The ideal candidate for rhinoplasty is a patient with realistic expectation with a deformity in their nasal bridge (such as a hump or a deviation) and/or tip (bulbous, overly projected, or asymmetric tip).
Using modern open-structure and ultrasonic techniques, rhinoplasty surgery takes two to three hours to perform for patients that have not had rhinoplasty previously. Rhinoplasty lasts a lifetime. Final results take one year to show.
Benefits: The main benefits of rhinoplasty is improvement in nostril width and improvement in harmony between the nose and the face.
Recovery: Patients leave the surgery center with plastic and tape on their nose, and sutures under their nose. These are removed at your first postoperative appointment (days 5-8). You should plan a week of recovery from work, school, and social activites. After a week, most bruising can be easily hidden with concealer. You should not apply pressure to the nose (for example with glasses or swimming goggles) for six weeks after surgery if your bones were re-shaped as bones take six weeks to heal.
Risks: Pain, bleeding, infection, visible scarring, asymmetries, unsatisfactory cosmetic result, nasal obstruction, septal perforation, tip numbness and stiffness.
