Also called liquid rhinoplasty, it is a technique where hyaluronic acid (a filler) is injected into the nose to modify and sculpt it into a more appealing shape

How long does a non-surgical nose job last?
In its synthetic form, hyaluronic acid usually lasts about a year when injected into the nose with the type of product that we use. Although the product is temporary, the injection process can stimulate the formation of new collagen (a scar) that will result in permanent shape changes to the nose. This does not mean that a touch-up is not necessary every year. However, after multiple injection rounds, the shape of the nose will be permanently different than the initial shape.
What is a mini-rhinoplasty?
A mini-rhinoplasty is a hybrid technique performed in less than an hour, usually under local anesthesia. It is a combination of two known techniques :
- Non surgical rhinoplasty (hyaluronic acid);
- Surgical alar base reduction (reducing the side of the nostrils);
What are the risks of a non-surgical rhinoplasty or mini-rhinoplasty?
When performed safely by an expert in our clinic, the risks are minimal, but they exist. The nose is the highest risk area for complications when injecting hyaluronic acid fillers in the face. This is why it needs to be performed by an expert in nasal anatomy, and needs to be performed with small volumes, in a conservative fashion.
This is our philosophy to minimize complications like necrosis of the skin or blindness (that are both rare, fortunately). When combined with alar base reductions, a mini-rhinoplasty surgery has the universal (but minimal) risks of scarring, bleeding, infection, and pain. Extremely rarely, an injection in a blood vessel (artery or vein) can happen. This is usually diagnosed during the procedure and we must immediately inject a medication called hyaluronidase to avoid complications like necrosis or blindness.
The main risk of any cosmetic procedure is to be unhappy with the results. The majority of our patients are happy with a non surgical nose job and mini-rhinoplasty. However, and thankfully, in case of dissatisfaction, all nasal injections can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
What are the limitations of non-surgical nose jobs and mini-rhinoplasties?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty and mini-rhinoplasty do not cure breathing problems. Treating breathing issues such as a deviated septum involves surgery performed by a board-certified surgeon and a more invasive procedure called a rhinoplasty.
It is also important to keep in mind that injectable fillers cannot correct very severe deviations.

What type of anesthesia do you use?
No anesthesia is required for a non surgical nose job. In some cases, we use topical anesthetic cream but this is not necessary in a majority of cases due to the non invasive and painless nature of the treatment.
For a mini-rhinoplasty, if the patient chooses to complement the nonsurgical rhinoplasty with alar base reductions, local anesthesia would be used with small injections during the surgical component.
A bonus of receiving either of these treatments it that both procedures are reported to be well tolerated without any major discomfort.
How long is recovery for a non-surgical nose job?
The recovery for a non surgical nose job is very minimal and quick. Patients typically are able to leave the office the same day and can return to their regular activities 24 hours after the procedure.
Those who experience swelling report that it is minimal and typically disappears during the first week, leaving you with almost immediate desired results.

How long is recovery for a mini rhinoplasty?
The recovery for a mini rhinoplasty is slightly longer than a non surgical nose job however much quicker than a regular rhinoplasty. Typically, patients leave the surgical center the same day of the treatment. When injections have been performed, there are no sutures to remove; however when a client chooses to receive alar base reductions, sutures are removed 5 to 7 days later.
In all cases, daily activities can resume the following day. We recommend waiting a week before intense physical activity and swelling typically disappears within 1-2 weeks following the procedure.
What happens during the alar base reduction part of the procedure?
Alar base reduction is a cosmetic procedure that alters the size and shape of the nostrils. The alar base connects the nose to the upper lip and cheek and is located at the bottom of the nose. It’s the triangular outline you see when looking up at the nose from below. Though more invasive than a non-surgical nose job, a mini-rhinoplasty typically doesn’t take longer than 40 minutes and is minimally painful with minimal recovery time.
Alar base reduction is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping the lower part of the nose. This can be done through small incisions around the nostrils, cheek and nose lip. This procedure is used to improve nasal symmetry, reduce nostril size and achieve better facial harmony. When used with the filler used in a non-surgical nose job, you can achieve the perfect desired results.
Is a mini rhinoplasty painful?
The only painful portion of the procedure would just be at the beginning when your nose is being numbed with some anesthetic injections. Once this is done, you should not feel anything and the procedure should be painless.
The filler aspect of the procedure should only feel like a pinch and would not be very painful, similar to a non-surgical nose job.
