Procedure: Deoxycholic acid is a natural acid present in your gallbladder and digests fat in your digestive system. We use deoxycholic acid (Belkyra) as a non-surgical injectable solution to remove excess fat under the chin and improve chin and jaw definition. The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, is naturally found in the body and helps dissolve fat molecules. Carefully selected patients can benefit from deoxycholic acid injections. These injections usually require up to six sessions with a month between each session.
Recovery time: Minimal swelling and burning usually lasts about 48 hours, and there could be minor swelling for up to two weeks. We recommend you avoid salt and alcohol for a few days after the treatment, and make sure you are well-hydrated. Icing the area intermittently for a few hours helps as well. We recommend wearing a neck and chin strap nightly for the first two weeks after the procedure.
Risks: injection site reactions (swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, itching, warmth, hardness, tingling or burning sensation), skin tightness, nerve injury, mouth or throat pain, high blood pressure (hypertension), nausea, difficulty swallowing.
